Robert "Murph" Roper's Obituary
Robert “Murph” Roper, 70, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. He was born in Bristol, CT son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Penkowski) Roper. Murph grew up in Bristol, CT and Tolland, CT, and was a graduate of Rockville High School. He was a talented cabinet maker and craftsman and worked for Nutmeg Stairs and Cabinets for many years. Murph was an avid fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the New England Patriots. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to tag sales and finding treasures for others. He was also a former Scout leader, enjoyed making beef jerky, and was known by his family as “Mr. fix it” and “inspector gadget”. Murph is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Esther (Hansen) Roper; two children, Michael Roper of Tolland, CT, and Kimberly Harris and her husband Shawn of Brewster, MA; grandchildren, Devon Roper, Brianna Roper, and Bailey and Kayla Harris; two great granddaughters; three siblings, Larry Roper, Scamp Campbell, and David Roper; and several nieces and nephews.
