Samuel Lindsay's Obituary
Colonel Samuel McGune Lindsay II, 80, U.S. Army retired, died on September 14, 2008 in Tenerife, Spain, where he resided since his retirement from active duty in 1976. He was born in New York, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Rogers) Lindsay. Sam was very proud that his early schooling was at the Horace Mann School of Columbia University which had been his grandparent's school and where his grandfather had been a revered professor of economics. After attending the Horace Mann School, he graduated from Peekskill Military Academy and the College of William and Mary before joining the Army in 1952. He served in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. During the years of his service, he was further educated by the Army at Charlottesville University, the Command and General Staff College, and the City College of Chicago. Sam received a citation for meritorious service as Chief-Systems Analysis Branch, Chief-Programming Branch, and Deputy Chief-Systems Development Division, for the U.S. Army Tactics and Analysis. Further Meritorious Service Medals were awarded to him for the years 1968-1971 and 1971-1974. He was awarded the legion of Merit, Field Artillery USA 1974-1976. Upon his retirement, "U.S. Army Strong" presented him with a General Star. Since his retirement, he was very active in social and sports events, being a keen tennis player. Sam is survived by his beloved wife, Amalie 'Amy' of Tenerife, Spain. Sam was a dear friend too many and will be sadly missed. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. at the Congregational Church of Union, Buckley Highway, Union, CT.
