Stella Lichanec's Obituary
Stella Lichanec, 83, of Vernon, CT and Willington, CT, died peacefully on January 1, 2009 at Connecticut Hospice Hospital, Branford, CT. She was born on April 3, 1925 in Willington, CT, daughter of the late Anton and Helen (Tomkowic) Petrowich. Stella graduated from Windham High School and Morse College. She was very active in the Senior Citizens Club of Tolland/Vernon and was on the Senior Citizens Advisory Board for the Vernon Town Council in 1997. Her volunteer work included American Red Cross and helping individuals through the Vernon Senior Center. She also enjoyed competing in the Center's shuffleboard tournaments. Stella was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 938, and the Stafford Women's Club. Stella had a love for dancing and was a member of the Golden Steppers Dance Group, performing on many occasions. She competed in the Ms. Senior CT in 1998, winning the 'Inner Beauty Award.' She worked for the late Dr. Michael Bulick in Stafford Springs, CT for many years as a dental assistant, and retired from First Brands Company as a secretary. Stella was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Rockville, CT.
She will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Patricia Berg of Vernon, CT, Cynthia Blanchard and her husband Alan of Columbus, NC, and Kathleen White and her husband Eric of Port St. Lucie, FL. She is survived by six grandchildren, John Blanchard, Stacey Vessichio, Deborah Hosking, Heather Blanchard, Amanda Marian and Jason White; six cherished great-grandchildren; sisters Anna Amidon and Emma Looney; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband John Lichanec; brothers Adam and Carl Petrowich; and son-in-law John Berg. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 12 Noon at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington, CT. Calling hours are on Saturday from 10 A.M. until 12 Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.
