Timothy G. Armitage's Obituary
Timothy Gilbert Armitage, 60, of Ashford, CT passed away on Sunday July 13, 2025 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Gilbert W. Armitage and Charlene (Saltonstall) Armitage. Tim (Timmy) is survived by his mother Charlene, his sister Arminda Kamphausen and her husband Roy, his sister Amy-Lyn Arel, and beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Gilbert Armitage.
Tim Armitage was a mechanic who could fix anything and keep anything running – large or small. His colleagues, friends, and family knew exactly where to turn when anything needed repair. His customers became long-time friends, and he built relationships as he rebuilt machinery. He ‘had a heart of gold’ and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.
Growing up on a dairy farm, Tim was also a woodsman and a farmer, working alongside his father for many years to run the Gil Armitage & Son firewood business. He also worked many seasons with his family on Westford Hill to provide vegetables for the Westford Hill Farmstand.
Tim was an EMT and Firefighter and an active member of Ashford Volunteer Fire Department beginning in 1994.
He was a quiet, hardworking man, known for his dry sense of humor. Not known for being a big talker, he was an impactful “doer”; those who knew him best experienced a deeper relationship with Tim while doing things with him - from fixing engines to shooting skeet to gardening to cutting wood to golfing. An excellent and devoted golfer, Tim was a former member at Twin Hills Country Club and spent many happy years on courses across Connecticut’s quiet corner with friends and family.
His family is grateful for the care and compassion shown by his friends and colleagues who visited Tim in the last few weeks. Nothing could have prepared us all for the speed with which Tim’s illness progressed, but to have shared meaningful moments in his last days was a blessing beyond measure.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at Westford Congregational Church (now New Life Church) in Ashford, CT at 368 Westford Hill Road. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 and a reception in the church fellowship hall at 12:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Ashford Volunteer Fire Department at https://www.ashfordfire.org/donate
