William (Bill) Servedio passed away on Monday, December 27th 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 78, ending a courageous 12-year battle with leukemia. He was born January 14th, 1943 in Cornwall, NY. Bill grew u Read Obituary
My deepest condolences. He'll always be in your heart. Cherish the memories. Bill was a wonderful person. I'm proud to have called him a friend. I'll always remember his days a a coach in Willington Jr Soccer, working with him as a high school soccer official., playing tennis with him and also as a loving and caring parent when I taught his children Michael and Suzanne.
Dr. Servedio was my undergrad teacher (took a Sport and Leisure elective), then advisor and department head (Kinesiology) as I worked on my masters . He did not know how deeply I admired him. During my first class with him, while taking the final exam, 2 beefy jocks attempted to weasel out of it - but that didn't work with Dr. Servedio. When I returned to UConn to get my masters, Dr. Servedio bent over backwards to help me create a grad school plan where I could position myself as both a grade 7-12 science teacher and residential camp director. And that is what I became and who I am. I wish I had a chance to tell him personally how much of a positive influence he was on helping me find my way.
Suzanne and Michael, I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He was a wonderful person and was a blessing to all the lives he touched.
Billy was one of the most likeable and most intellectual of these men who taught college kids how to be gracious on and off the playing fields of sports and life.
My parents and my sisters and I were very fond of Billy and his wife Margie. Truly loving friends who knew the differences between fairness and unfairness.

I worked with Bill at The University of Connecticut. He was a consummate professional and some one I admired and respected. I served as an Assistant Soccer Coach and taught some of the ESLS offered under Bill's direction. My thoughts are with the Servedio family. Eric Swallow

It with fond memories that Theresa and I recall those early days at UCONN when Bill and Marge made us feel like part of the family. We house sat with Michael and Suzanne, we helped move them into their “new house”, they sat in the front row at our wedding, and shared their breakfast at Wimbledon with us. We are truly appreciative of those times and feel honored to have remained part of their lives over the past 40 years. Staying in touch with Bill was easy, we spoke regularly, and we were always happy to listen to Bill’s stories and updates on UCONN, especially women’s basketball and soccer. Those conversations will be missed. Thank you, Bill (and Marge) for being our friends you will be sorely missed.

Dear Michael and Family, Bill was a special colleague and friend. Anytime he was in Gampel Pavilion, he would always go out of his way to stop by my office to say hi and catch up. Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand. In recent years we established a friends of Wethersfield soccer connection due to your coaching position there. Bill always spoke highly of his family. Many personal connections with Bill; our daughter Liza as a personal close friend with Suzanne; our son Steve a soccer teammate of Michael's at Windham; working with Bill at Special Olympics; crossing paths on the UConn campus; fondly and enjoyable as a partner referee for local high school soccer matches; and as a Personal Friend whom I held in the highest esteem
We shared the same approach/philosophy on the field and worked well as a team. Our physical size and appearance was such that we could have been mistaken for twins. (I think Bill was a little cuter) . Of course, this often played out to our advantage, during a soccer match, when the coaches or crowd couldn't remember who had made the "bad calls"; so we shared the boos fairly equally. :)
As Eric stated, He was certainly a pleasure to have known. . . my kind of person!

I had the pleasure of knowing Bill at UConn but also as a fellow high school referee of soccer where we worked many games together. He was an excellent partner with a great smile, friendly attitude and great sense of fair play by serving the players well. I greatly enjoyed bumping into him around campus and once in Santa Fe, NM where his sense of humor and broad smile always appeared. He was a pleasure to have known … memories of working soccer games stay with me.
