William W. "Bill" Symonds Sr.'s Obituary
William W. "Bill" Symonds, Sr., 83, of Somers, CT, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Born in Stafford Springs, CT, Bill was the son of the late William M. Symonds, Jr. and Helen (Ducharme) Symonds. Bill graduated from technical school as a mapping draftsman. He then received the opportunity to work as a weather recorder and forecaster for WFSB Channel 3 in Hartford, CT and from there joined the military. He proudly served his country as a Mapping Draftsman in the United States Army during the Vietnam era stationed in Germany.
A dedicated professional, Bill continued to use his drafting skills and ultimately owned and operated his land surveying business in Stafford Springs, CT for more than 45 years. He was a respected member of the Connecticut Association of Land Surveyors.
Bill received his private pilot’s license out of Ellington, CT and took many trips across New England.
He was also well known throughout the region for his passion and expertise in the art of fireworks. As a member of Pyrotechnics Guild International and a professional licensed fireworks shooter, Bill designed and directed countless Fourth of July fireworks displays across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, including the annual celebration in his hometown of Stafford Springs, CT.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished time spent with his family and will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and the joy he brought to so many through his spectacular fireworks displays.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Campbell) Symonds; his daughter, Bonita L. Miller and her husband, Michael; his son, William W. Symonds, Jr. and his wife, Linda; his grandsons, Chad A. Miller and his wife, Hannah, and Jacob Miller; his brother, Michael Symonds and his wife, Barbara Harkins; his nephew, Ryan Symonds and his wife, Payton; as well as many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Funeral services and burial in St. Edward Cemetery in Stafford Springs, CT, will be held privately.
