William Welz,'s Obituary
William Fredrick Welz Sr., age 83, resident of Tolland, passed away on June 14th, 2007. William was born in New Haven on October 20th, 1923, son of Henry and Lillian (Platt); dearly beloved husband of the late Josephine E. (Rovozzo) for 60 years. William proudly served his country overseas in World War II from July 10th, 1944 to January 10th, 1946. William served as a personal bodyguard for General George S. Patton and fought bravely at the Battle of the Bulge. William received two medals for Good Conduct and Victory and two ribbons for the American Theater Campaign and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign. William spent 35 years as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney and was a member of both the Freemasons and the VFW. After retirement, William spent most of his days taking care of his family, camping in Bourne, Cape Cod, golfing with his son Russell, working on his tree farm in Tolland, and watching the Boston Red Sox. William is dear father of William F. Jr. married to Diane (Ledogar) and Russell S. married to Wendy (Teslik); proud grandfather of Eric T. married to Rhonda K. (Smith), Kara J., Ailla W., Catherine J., Christopher, Halley R., and William F. III; proud great-grandfather of Zachary T., Tia R., Ella J., and Zoe D.; predeceased by his brothers Henry, Walter, and Robert; survived by his sisters Lillian (Shea), Dorothy (Limberger), Beatrice (Kemble), Anna (Royce), Shirley (Highland), Eleanor (Anderson) and brothers Carl, Edward, and Albert. The family is grateful for the help provided by Northeast Hospice and all donations should be sent to the address below. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
