Amelia K. Schofield's Obituary
Amelia Kaschuluk Schofield, 92, of Medfield, MA and Stafford Springs, CT, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2020 with her family holding her hands. She will forever be in their hearts. Amelia was born on February 18, 1928 along with her twin sister, Olga, to Michael and Julia Kaschuluk of Crow Hill Road in Stafford Springs, CT into a family of 11 children. She was predeceased by her sisters, Jen (Nat) Uliana, Stella (Edward) Liss, Olga (John) Satkowski, and Nancy (Kenneth) Stone, her four brothers, Joseph (Mary) Kaschuluk, Benjamin (Marjorie) Kaschuluk, William Kaschuluk, and her beloved brother, Albert (Rena) Kaschuluk. She is survived by her sisters, Irene (Paul) Spak and Honey (Bill) Fagan. Amelia was so loved by her children, Jane Schofield, Billie (Brenda) Schofield, Jill (Peter) Moran, and Brady (Sarah) Schofield; her eight grandchildren, Luc Pelletier, Ryan (Andria) Schofield, Megan Quigley, Katherine (Jonathon) Martinez, Kevin Moran, Paige (Michael) Belley, Amelia Rose Schofield, and Julia Schofield; her two great grandchildren, Tanner Quigley, and the love of her last two years, sweet Sophia Rose Belley; her three special goddaughters, Melanie McKenna, Andrea Spak, and Betti-Jane Kaschuluk; many nieces and nephews, and close friends in Stafford Springs, CT. Her hobbies were endless: wreath making for each of the seasons, stenciling rooms in the house, painting Russian eggs for Easter time, lace ornaments for the Christmas tree, “shell” tags for Christmas presents, homemade candles. But her greatest talent was weaving Nantucket Baskets for the family in many sizes and shapes including the Nantucket Purses. Her final crafting project in her later years was braiding small throw rugs at the nursing home which kept her hands busy. And if cooking is a craft, it was her favorite, from hors d’oeuvres to soups to main dishes to desserts to her homemade Kahlua. You could always count on a warm, delicious meal at Mela’s house along with a cocktail. Amelia also loved to travel the world and made friends wherever she went. From her first trip on a Movers Convention in Austria, she fell in love with her parents’ homeland and returned several times including a ski trip to Kitzbuhel. Her other travels included annual Fall trips to Nantucket with her two nieces, Betti-Jane and Barbara, cross country skiing in the winter, downhill skiing, and summer beach trips to Misquamicut, RI. Funeral services will be held privately with burial in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the BUILD, P.O. Box 3316, Redwood City, CA 94064, given to a deserving student wishing to study nursing, mathematics, or the arts. Please send a cover letter or note in the memo line that the donation is for the Amelia K. Schofield Educational Scholarship Fund.
