Carol F. VanDerlip's Obituary
Carol F. VanDerlip, 60, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, surrounded by family and her beloved cats, after a courageous battle with cancer. Carol spent her early years in South Glastonbury, CT and Martha's Vineyard, MA. In both places she acquired her abiding love for all creatures of the earth: the wild, the domestic, and all those in-between. Carol worked for the Bureau of Air Management for 21 plus years as an office assistant and processing technician. She was the Air Bureau's FOIA Liaison for over 17 years in which she received many accolades from the general public, regulated community, and DEEP management in recognition of her dedicated professionalism. At work, Carol was very generous with her time. Her flair for design and decoration brought smiles to the faces of her colleagues and their children who attended holiday and other special occasions at the department. However, she was probably best known for creating and coordinating the Whisker's and Our Companions Holiday Sale that became the agency's largest and most widely known charitable giving event, raising substantial funds in support of these two animal rescue organizations. Carol was also a leading member of SHHH, an advocacy group for the hearing impaired. As such, she applied her artistic talents, organizational skills, and leadership qualities to initiate and carry out numerous events in support of SHHH goals. Carol was a lover and protector of all animals, especially her beloved cats. Carol was soft spoken yet very determined (not unlike her beloved mother!). She cared deeply about her colleagues, her friends, and her family. She had a wonderful, quirky sense of humor, and she enjoyed "Goodwill Hunting" with her sidekick, H, throughout Connecticut for intriguing items for the fund raising events she sponsored. Carol was the daughter of the late Loring and Janet (Best) VanDerlip. She leaves behind her 5 loving siblings, David VanDerlip, Lowell VanDerlip, Peter VanDerlip, Jane VanDerlip and Harriette Holmes and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses deep gratitude to Carol's many friends and colleagues for the ongoing love and support they showed throughout her illness. A celebration of Carol’s life is planned for Monday, May 7, 2018 at Crandall's Park Lodge, 124 Cider Mill Road, Tolland, CT, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Friends, colleagues, and family are invited to attend to share food, stories and a celebration of the life of this unique and much-loved person, Carol F. VanDerlip. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to make a contribution in Carol's memory, please send your gift to Our Companions Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 956, Manchester, CT 06045 www.ourcompanions.org
