Brigitte, I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. I did not know Charlie well but did find him to be a gracious person. Without hesitation he went out of his way to provide me with a ride from and to Peoples Auto in Somers when I had car problems. I believe that you have many happy memories to reflect back upon such as the travel adventure with him up to Hudson Bay.

I first met Charlie in the mid '90s in an event to advance engine control systems. As fast freinds, I'll never forget his good nature, smiling delivery of novel ideas, and his happy desire to innovate. I'm saddened for his loss and fortunate to have spent time with this enthusiastic aerospace spirit. My deepest condolences and wishes for peace to you.
I worked with Charlie during the Golden Age at the PW Controls group. At various times I was his co-worker, his employee, and (at least nominally) his boss; but always his friend. He dedicated his life to making civil aviation better and safer. I'm glad I got to help. The world is a smaller place without him.

I just got the news today 1/3/11. Words cant fill the hole of sadness I feel. Charlie gets the award for longest restoration of a Piper PA-12 :) And for making my time at the Ellenville airport where he learned more than just flying from my dad, memorable indeed !!
I met Charlie last summer at Oshkosh. He and I and several other EAA members shared a house together. I was amazed at his knowledge and love of aviation and his willingness to share it with others. As both a new pilot and a new engineer at Pratt and Whitney, I really appreciated his encouragement to pursue my aviation interests. I will never forget his enthusiasm and the pride he had in his work to make the world of aviation a better place.
i am very sad to hear of charlie passing away.I grew up with charlie, he taught me how to drive stick shift in an old VW. He also took me flying in ellanville a lot of weekends when our families got together in Kerhonkson. he also showed me how to build model airplanes from computer paper and a stick. He taught me a lot of things from photography to music. I always looked up to him and always will. he will be missed

I just stumbled upon this news, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I remember Charlie well. He was one of the most fascinating people I have ever met, a boundless and intimidating intellect, an expert at all things technical, and yet always kind and generous with his time. Getting to know you and Charlie is a fond memory of my few years with P&W.

You guys were always a lot of fun. I remember the two of you use to like driving up to Brattleboro just for dinner. And how you could not find the lawn mower because the grass was so high, and the town dump in Union was the weekly social meeting.
