David S. Jordan's Obituary
David Simpson Jordan, 75, of Willington, CT, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Rockville General Hospital. He was born in Portland, ME, son of the late Norman R., Sr. and Dorothy H. (Simpson) Jordan. Dave had may nicknames Duke, Leroy, Bubba and the Big fella. He grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine and worked at the family farm and gas station when he was young. Dave graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School class of 1957 winning the State Championship in basketball and graduated from the University of Miami in Florida. Dave retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in 1993 as a Purchasing Materials Manager. He loved sports in general, especially Red Sox baseball, history, trivia and the UConn Women’s huskies. He coached Little League and basketball in Tolland for many years. Dave was President and Newsletter Editor for the Jordan Family Organization which took him to England to trace his family roots. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, golf, cooking, history, watching John Wayne movies, and spending time with family and friends. Dave played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA in 1951 for the Maine team and met Cy Young. He played for the Pratt Pump House Gang Softball team and Golf League well into his 60’s. He was one of the original members of the Cape Classic Golf group and the Arbor Day Marching & Chowder Society. He was lucky to have played baseball with his son and grandson on the Toronto Blue Jays field. He and his wife enjoyed travelling the U.S. and abroad. Dave loved animals, especially his cats. He could tell stories and make people laugh, was fun to be around, and a loyal friend. He enjoyed every day and lived life to the fullest. His favorite place was Maine and he spent many happy times there. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Joyce (Mannila) Jordan; three children, Mark Jordan and his wife Edna, Laura Jordan and her husband Timothy Noon, and Lisa Jordan and her husband Keith Boyle; two grandchildren, Sarah and Evan Jordan; brother, Norman R. Jordan, Jr.; mother-in-law, Phyllis Mannila; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. We’re gonna miss ya, Duke! His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be in Moose Meadow Cemetery, Willington, CT. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
