Edward "Bob" Cercena's Obituary
Edward "Bob" Cercena, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the age of 91. He was the loving husband of the late Charlotte (Murray) Cercena. Bob was born in Stafford Springs on February 10, 1926, son of the late William and Judith (Pradel) Cercena. Edward lived in Stafford Springs all his life. He attended local schools and Willimantic State Trade School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II. After the war, he was employed by the B.A. Muzio Plumbing Company, eventually becoming owner. Bob was a past president of the Stafford Rotary Club, serving two years and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient. He was past president of the Co-op Food Store, a member of the Italian Benefit Society in Stafford, and a lifetime member of the Stafford Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of the Strazza, Tonoli-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion since 1947, and a Trustee of the Stafford Savings Bank for 31 years. Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Cheman; brother, Rudolph Cercena; and three sisters, Josephine “Alba” Ference, Edith Polios, and Esther Young. He is survived by his son, Ronald Cercena and his wife Jane; daughter, Donna Gessay and her husband Norman; son-in-law, Rob Cheman; his grandchildren, Andrew and Ellen Cercena, Linda and Lori Paolini, and Tony Paolini and his wife Mackenzie; sisters-in-law, Lottie Cercena and Kay Warren; brother-in-law, George Murray; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, with a procession forming by 10 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Edward Church, 55 High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
