James J. Smith of Union, Connecticut, 73, passed away at his home December 24, 2023. Jim graduated from Dartmouth College and completed the course work for a master’s degree in oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. For o Read Obituary
I went to Kent School with Jim and he was always one of my favorite people, both at school and in the years after. Whenever the conversation at reunions would drift into pomposity, you could count on Jim to bring everybody back to earth with a well-placed comment. I always looked forward to seeing him at our class reunions and I'm very sad to know that's not going to happen again. He was a unique and beautiful person and I will miss him.
It was always a pleasure to chat with you, Jim. Your contributions to our town through the years made a difference. You will be missed.
Jimmy. I always enjoyed our discussions at the Library, especially because we almost always agreed. Rest in peace.
