Joan C. Snedeker's Obituary
Joan C. Snedeker, 87, of Willington, CT passed away on May 20th at Manchester Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Newport, RI, daughter of the late Joseph and Stacia (Kaminski) Konopka. Joan grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts surrounded by her extended family. During these formative years, she developed a deep connection with her cousins who she regularly spoke of fondly and still looked forward to connecting with as often as possible. Joan and her husband Gene raised their three boys in rural Willington and could be regularly seen supporting their sons in all of their various sports activities. During her boys' school years Joan took a job at the Big Bunny Supermarket in Stafford which gave her more time with her best friend Alice Gordon. Throughout her sons’ teen years she could be seen on race days at Stafford Speedway, managing the popcorn stand, working alongside her family and many friends acquired along the way. After retirement, Joan and Gene traveled extensively. They eventually landed on Anna Maria Island, Florida, where Joan was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Turtle Conservation Groups, and Meals On Wheels. They later relocated to The Villages Florida, and continued traveling. Joan enjoyed line-dancing, kayaking, ballroom dancing, and various activities at the American Legion. Joan was thrilled to have three exceptional daughters-in-law marry her boys, and would brag to anyone who would listen about how lucky she was to have them in her life. She also shared great moments and memories with her only and favorite granddaughter Jacqueline. Joan is survived by her sons, Richard Snedeker and his wife Debra, Robert Snedeker and his wife Elizabeth Wehrli, daughter-in-law Sharon Snedeker, and granddaughter Jacqueline Jolin. She was predeceased by her husband Gene E. Snedeker, son Michael Snedeker, and brother Joseph Konopka. Burial at Florida National Cemetery will be private. Donations in her honor can be made to The American Red Cross. To leave a message of sympathy for her family, please visit: https://www.introvignefuneralhome.com
