Lynda W. Bacon's Obituary
Lynda W. Bacon, 77, of Stafford Springs, CT passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born in Jacksonville, NC, daughter of the late Gordan and Thelma (Justice) Walton. It is impossible to describe Lynda in a single paragraph. Growing up on a farm in coastal NC, a surfer in the 60’s, she married a marine and headed up north to start her family. She proceeded to move around the country for the next decade– from Buffalo to Rochester, NY, to New Jersey, then – 2 kids in tow- cross country to Phoenix AZ, then back east to Burlington, MA, Derry NH, then finally settling in Stafford Springs, CT for the last 40 years, where she was an active member of the community. From Junior Woman’s club, to bowling league, and the resident face painter for every “Summerfest” for over 20 years! (kids and adults alike, lined up to get one of her butterflies on their face!) She was everyone’s “mother” when her kids were in high school – hosted all the pre-game events, parties, and attended every single game. For 4 years she was known as “Mamma B” by the Stafford High School field hockey team, a name that stuck when she became a step grandmother. When her kids grew up and left home, she filled her team spirit void by becoming an avid UConn Huskies fan (she supported the boys – but the girl's team was her passion and obsession!) She watched every game, with her pom poms and mascot, Jonathan, cheering them on to victory for many years!
Lynda never lost the “childlike wonder” of life. She was able to find joy in everyday moments, was quick to laugh and saw humor in everything. Her southern roots meant she never met a stranger. She appreciated the simple things and was extraordinarily kind. She donated to many charities and had a deep empathy for people from all walks of life. At her core – she was an artist. She sang, she danced, and she painted. She loved nature – was an avid bird watcher, gardener, and the beach was her happy place.
Lynda is survived by her two children, son - John Bacon and his wife Olivia, and her three grandchildren, Liam, Declan and Evelyn Bacon, and daughter – Kelly Bacon.
