Marilyn Wilson's Obituary
Marilyn Wilson, 97, died January 15, 2021 in Manchester, CT. She was born in 1923 in Chicago, IL and graduated from the University of Akron in 1944. In the summer of 1946, she taught summer school, as did Kenneth G. Wilson. They met at the first faculty meeting. At the end of the summer session, they turned in their grades, received their paychecks, and got married. In 1952, they moved to Storrs, CT, where they lived for 51 years. They were happily married for 57 years; after her husband’s death, she moved to Arbors of Hop Brook in Manchester, CT. Marilyn was an active member of the Storrs community. She led the effort to gain federal funding to establish the first day-care center in Mansfield. As an actor, she appeared regularly in performances by the Mansfield Players, and later, she acted, directed, and wrote plays for the UConn League Trouping Theater, performing plays for elementary school children around the state. She served as a docent at the William Benton Museum of Art in Storrs, CT, where she especially enjoyed working with children, not only conducting tours for school groups, but visiting their classrooms beforehand to prepare them for their trip. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts in 1982. Marilyn is survived by her son, Derek, her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Douglas Haas, her grandchildren, Daniel and Melissa Wilson, Kate Linderson, and Rebecca and Jeffrey Delaney, and great-grandchildren, Emily, Baer, Kayleigh, Trinity, Kiersten, and Serenity. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to MACC Charities, P. O. Box 3804, Manchester, CT 06045. Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., Stafford Springs, CT, has care of the arrangements. To leave a condolence online for the family, please visit: www.introvignefuneralhome.com
