Renato Calchera's Obituary
Renato B. "Bigo" Calchera, 104, lifelong resident of Stafford Springs, CT, and beloved husband of the late Mildred L. (Glazier) Calchera, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs, CT. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, son of the late Luigi and Angela (Lazzeris) Calchera. Bigo was a member of the State of Connecticut Legislator for 12 years, was a former second selectman for the Town of Stafford, attended the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968, and was instrumental in organizing union labor movements. In his youth, Bigo was active in sports. He was a member of St. Edward Parish, honorary lifetime member of the Italian Benefit Society, and member of the Stafford Fish and Game Club where he was instrumental in founding the children's fishing derby. He is survived by his two daughters, Joyce Robinson and Janice Chynoweth, both of New York; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Benjamin, Mariano "Scat", and Ernest "Snibbles". His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, with a procession forming by 11 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are on Friday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
