Robert W. Mihancki, 77, of Somers, CT, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. This news reached me this morning and took me by surprise fore I did not no Bob was ill. Over some forty years our lives have intersected paths. Please understand I am looking at our relationship thru my eyes and I am sure each person that has been blessed to have known Bob, each have their own window, each unique and special.
I first met Bob when visiting my in laws, Bob and Pat lived across the street and were the perfect neighbors. My father in law John and he had this Sunday morning ritual. Bob would come over about 11 o’clock and they would have an apricot brandy to “take the edge off the day” and talk about all manner of things, Then Bob would get up and collect all the trash and take it to the dump. As time passed Sheila and I moved back home to care fore John and Frieda and I ,too became part of that ritual. Time has it’s way and they moved away. It is the natural ebb and flow of life.
In the fall of 2009 Bob and Pat had moved back into the area and we bumped into them and I reminded Bob that I had a bottle of apricot brandy on hand and the following Sunday he stopped by at 11 o’clock (like clock work). As we began taking the edge of the day off and catching up on things I began to tell him about Safe Net Ministries, the work with Flows Kitchen and our Elsie’s House project. He straight away asked if he could get involved. I explained that one of the projects we were working on was a Life Transformational Ministry to help people to get work. Being an experienced project leader he jumped right in.
The day of our first meeting we had discovered a property to rent at 68 main and we immediately shifted gears and we began planning for the Safe Net Ministries Food Cupboard. Bob became our first Food Cupboard Director and organized us into teams. One to order food, one to bring it in ,one to weigh it, and one to count it and so on. Each of these teams developed their own plans under Bob’s guidance. We opened on schedule January 10th 2010 and immediately enrolled 300 families. His legacy for me and our town in just this one aspect of his life has been enormous. Today seven years later we are still utilizing the systems that he and our teams developed together and this Year Safe Net will have distributed to our community 1,000,000, thats million, pounds of food. to Stafford and Union residents!
I have learned so much from Bob over the time we served together. I can not begin to express my appreciation for all that he has done for our community, but this is just one mans view. Thank you Bob and to Pat and family our deepest condolences. We must keep in mind that as Christians we do not morn the passing, but the absence.
Father in heaven we come before you with praise and thanks giving for the life of Robert Mihancki and we ask that you would envelop him in your loving arms and comfort Pat and his children. Grant them peace as they go through this time together, granting them patience and understanding of each other, In the name of Jesus. Amen
Sincerely,
Michael Welch
