Ruth Linsley's Obituary
Ruth Elizabeth Linsley, 92, of Ellenton, Florida and Portland, Maine, loving wife of the late Donald T. Linsley, passed away on May 4, 2010 at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Ruth was born on February 15, 1918 in Newton, MA to the late Arthur and Marion (Ireland) Kellaway. Ruth grew up in Newton, MA graduating from Newton High School 1936. She went on to graduate from Framingham College in 1940 with a BS in Education. Ruth married Donald T. Linsley in Hartford, CT in September 1951. They had three sons, James T. Linsley, Stephen K. Linsley, and Charles L. Linsley. Stephen passed away in 1974 and her husband Donald in 1978. Ruth worked at the Institute for Living in Hartford, CT and then at the University of Connecticut as a dining hall manager at McMahon Hall, the first co-ed dormitory at the university until she retired. She lived in Connecticut for much of her life, moving to Maine for summers in the mid-eighties when she started living it up in Florida for the winters. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and a Cub Scout den mother and attended the Federated Church in Willington, CT, and the Faith United Church in Ellenton, FL. Ruth was a participant in many clubs and social events. She loved to knit, play cribbage, travel, sit on the beach and visit with her many friends and family members. She was a craft artist and a wonderful cook who loved to keep in touch by mail and phone with people across the country. Ruth is survived by her partner of 15 years, Earl Wood; her son James Linsley and his family; son Charles Linsley and daughter-in-law Lori Linsley; adored grandsons Daniel and Tyler Linsley; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bob, Arthur, Gladys, and Charlie. The family would like to thank all of Ruth’s great neighbors and friends at Colony Cove for their love and assistance. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1 P.M. at Willington Hill Cemetery, Tolland Turnpike, Willington, CT.
