Michelle, Dave and family,

While I never had the pleasure of knowing Sam, I just can't imagine the pain that you all have experienced and the empty place in your hearts. Judging from the many comments and thoughts shared here, he sounds like a person who lived life to the max. This is a good thing in spite of it being cut so short. Deb and I just want you all to know that we're thinking of you. While time does not heal all wounds, it can help everyone to better reflect on the good times and to soften the edge of the pain.

Dave, I just heard of this news from Marianne. I am out of state this week but returning back home tomorrow. I am physically ill of hearing this news. As you know, I recently met Sam again as a young man. Before that he was a little boy. Wha a fine young man. Words cannot express my sorrow for you, Michelle, William and Grace.
