Scott D. Morey's Obituary
Scott D. Morey, 38, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022. He was born in Rockville, CT, son of Barbara (Smyka) Morey and the late John E. Morey. A loving husband and father, Scott is survived by his wife, Heidi (Claus) Morey, two children, Ashlynn and Jackson; mother, Barbara Morey; two siblings, Brian Morey and his wife Nicole, and Karen Contorno and her husband R.J.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard E., Jr. and Nora Claus; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nora and Michael Bergeron; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Scott Morey was a man who defied life’s typical expectations: He was larger than life, yet close and comfortable enough to be instantly warm and lovable. He was down to earth and quick to laugh, yet he held himself to exceptionally high standards. Although he was with us for only 38 years, he achieved a lifetime of accomplishments and paved the way for so many. This past Friday, September 30th, Scott passed away peacefully at Saint Francis Hospital, surrounded by loving family members and in the presence of his long-departed father. About 12 months ago, Scott was diagnosed with glioblastoma, yet he (unsurprisingly) defied the expectations and prognosis it carries. He refused to allow the diagnosis to define him, continuing to work full time and live his life to the fullest, until only slowing down this past week as he struggled with neck pain. Raised in Tolland, Connecticut, by his mother Barbara, his crazy older brother Brian, and his very loud older sister Karen, Scott was the glue that held his family together. Scott didn’t just love his family, he also LOVED animals. As a young boy he had many cows, dogs and cats (whose numbers often grew exponentially). His love of animals ultimately set Scott up for success at UConn where he excelled in the animal science program. Graduating from UConn in 2006 and then heading out west to Kansas State University, Scott pursued his passion for veterinary medicine. Scott would never settle for above average. His goal was always to strive to be the best. He did not stop by just opening his own practice, but again exceeded expectations and built a Veterinary Empire here in northern Connecticut. He invested a whole lot of his own blood, sweat, and tears, while--at the same time--giving those around him tons of encouragement, love, and respect. Scott achieved his goal in only a few years and our community is now served by his creation: Fenton River Veterinary Hospital. Prior to opening his amazing veterinary practice, Scott married the most incredible woman, Heidi (Claus) Morey, who blessed him with two beautiful and delightful children: Ashlynn (a 9-year-old cheerleader and softball star), and Jackson (a 7-year-old “don’t get in my way” football hero). There were only one or two things that Scott loved more than being a vet: The first was being a Dad, and the second was coaching his kids’ sports teams. He was living his best life, using his outsized voice to encourage kids to run faster, pass better, and hit harder. Just like everything else in Scott’s life, he used his heart, put in 110% and relentlessly pursued success. For all the people whose lives Scott has touched--his family would like to welcome you to come alongside of them to say your good-byes. There will be tears, smiles, and a few belly laughs this Monday, October 10, 2022 from 3-7 PM at Introvigne Funeral Home, 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. It is requested that you come as you are. No fancy dress, no need to impress, just come as the YOU that Scott knew. There will also be a graveside service the following day on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 11 AM at Stafford Springs Cemetery, Monson Rd., Stafford Springs, CT.
