Wilbur E. Gangaway's Obituary
Wilbur E. Gangaway, 89, of Willington, CT passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Complete Care at Fox Hill. He was born in Allentown, PA, son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Moyer) Gangaway. Wilbur served our country in the United States Air Force, and worked as a foreman at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. A humble man by nature, Wilbur lived a life of service; he was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, assisted with Windham Area Interfaith Ministries, served as a Mason and a volunteer fireman. In addition, he was the first to drop everything to help a neighbor in need. He was an active member of the Federated Church of Willington serving on different committees and boards, and was energized by putting his faith into action at the annual coffee breaks in the rest area where he could meet people from all walks of life. In 2017, Wilbur’s labor of love came full circle when he began residing in Willington’s newly completed Senior Housing, a dream he had been working on since 1974. He was past President of the Willington Senior Center, a member of the Willington Housing Authority, and Access Senior Housing of Willington. Wilbur is survived by three children, Faith Nixt and her husband Chuck, Garth Gangaway and his wife Janet, and Sherry Gangaway-Parent and her husband Kris; and six grandchildren, Michael, David, Kaitlin, Megan, Allison and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Alice (Fritzinger) Gangaway; daughter, Renee Gangaway; and three sisters, Hulda, Meda, and Lois.
