Uncle Bill you had the kindest eyes and the gentlest soul. You were always the first to help out and made every effort to make those around you feel comfortable. You knew how to laugh and were good at finding the humor in any situation. I have so many fond memories that go back 30+ years that I will cherish always. One of my favorites was you showing me how to make "clam chowdah" after a fun day of clamming at the cottage in RI. Right down to opening and cleaning the clams. You were a good cook! You often made wonderful meals for our family when we came to visit from PA. I never liked fried fish until I tried your delishous dish. No one else could make it quite the same and I actually looked forward to it.
I love that you and my husband shared a common interest in woodworking and you always made an effort to make him feel welcome at family gatherings. He truly enjoyed your conversations and was so touched when you went out of your way to give him your books and magazines on woodworking. You hold a special place in his heart.
My heart is very heavy with the thought that I won't get to see you one last time in this world, but I know you are in heaven with no more pain and you are looking down on all of us with love. I will miss you until we meet again, Uncle Bill.
Can't believe that he is gone. Bill was my frist friend when i moved in to my house in 1998 right across the street from Bill and Carol. He was always there to lend a hand.In 2006 after i sufferd heartatack Bill and Billy were always there to remove all the snow after every storm that winter.If i or my wife needed a ride he was always there no matter what he was doing.If i needed a tool if he owned it he lent it. I could always count on Bill. If it was a queston to be ask he was always there to answer it. He was my next door buddy. could not of had a better neighbor. He was a devoted husband to his wife Carol. Devoted father to his children Mary & Billy. Bill you will be missed by all that have cross your path. Through our lives we meet thousands of people from all walks of life. Some we like, some not. Occasionally we meet someone whom we instantly know is a person of quality and substance. Regardless of our age at the time, instincts kick in and we navigate toward that person. My uncle, Bill Hewett, was such a man. He may have only been about 5'10", but he stood tall and proud. He possessed the kindest of hearts, the gentlest of natures and the most helping hands you could imagine. To these traits he added enormous talent and a generous giving of himself. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, in his church and always made time for others. My aunt Carol, his wife of 57 years, was the light of his life. They were a couple I aspired to be like. They raised 2 wonderful children, traveled a good bit and enjoyed life together for all those years. When he passed, earlier this week, so many of us lost a friend, an uncle, father, brother, husband...and mostly, one of the finest men I've ever known. I feel so blessed to have had him in my life for 60 years. I always have and always will love you uncle Bill. I feel I'm a better person for having known you. We will all miss you so very much. Safe passage. You will forever be in our hearts.

I remember such wonderful time of my youth spent at the house in Ashford--eating, swimming, and laughing. Mary, I am especially sorry for the loss of your wonderful dad--and I wish I was there for you so much!!
