William Parizek's Obituary
William J. Parizek, 93, of Trask Rd., Willington, CT, beloved husband of Sophie (Kuchinsky) Parizek, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Rockville General Hospital, Rockville, CT. He was born on May 18, 1916 in Willington, CT, the son of the late William and Marie (Urban) Parizek. He attended Willington Schools and was a graduate of Windham High School and the University of Connecticut. He was associated with his father and uncle in the manufacturing of ocean pearl buttons prior to World War II. He served as an enlisted man in the U.S. Army in the coast artillery and later as commissioned officer in the corps of engineers during World War II, in the European and Pacific theaters. He served for many years with the U.S. Army Reserves, and retired with the rank of Colonel. He was also a member of the 1121st R & D Unit. During the post-war years he joined the University of Connecticut's Department of Animal Diseases (Pathobiology). His term of service spanned some thirty-five years during which time he earned the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Microbiology. He retired in 1986 as Associate Professor of Pathobiology. Bill was a member of the Federated Church of Willington, a life member of Corporal Henry Toberman V.F.W. Post No. 938 of Willington, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, an active member of the Natchaug Ornithological society of Storrs, and member of numerous other groups and societies. Besides his wife, Bill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally Jean Barbieri and Lawrence A. Barbieri of Danbury, CT, and Phyllis Marie Benton and Douglas Benton of Willington, CT and St. John, Virgin Islands. He was predeceased by a son, John W. Parizek in 1970. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Willington Hill Cemetery, Tolland Turnpike (Rte.74), Willington, CT. There are no calling hours.
